Boy Scouts Merit Badge
Come to the museum any day to earn this amazing badge. Not a Scout? Use this opportunity to get your first merit badge and see what being a Scout is all about. Working with the Abraham Lincoln Council, Boy Scouts of America, Scouts can earn the Abraham Lincoln National Museum of Surveying Merit Badge. by answering 25 questions about the tour.
"Holding Hands with History" with Artist Laureate Kay Smith
From July 14 to September 21, the museum and Illinois State Historical Society will host Kay Smith, Artist Laureate of Illinois and her historica water colors exhibit. The exhibit, "Holding Hands with History: The Life and Times of Abraham Lincoln in the Context of our History, 1775-1856," vividly shows the context of Lincoln's time by transporting you to the key historic places around the country. Admission is free, donations appreciated.
History Comes Alive
As part of History Comes Alive, vintage surveyors will be in Union Park on Saturdays from 10 AM to 3 PM. They will be showing visitors how to use a chain, a compass and do basic surveying. Most of all, the surveyor will talk about what it's like being a surveyor in the 1860s. Surveyor in Residence
If any surveyor is interested in being a Surveyor in Residence please contact the museum at 217.523.3130. SiRs volunteer their time to give their unique perspective to the museum. SiRs can host seminars, host presentations, give reenactments, write articles or books for the museum, help develop an exhibit or just help out at the museum.
Girl Scout Badge WorkshopsSave a date for November 3rd and December 8th. Workshops on letterboxing and geocaching will be held. More info to come!
